After rounding the Big Ten Curve on its ascent of the Front Range, the former Moffat Road climbs along the face of the range through Clay Siding before encountering Coal Canyon and Colorado State Highway 72, which it crosses on a girder bridge before resuming its climb. This grade crossing is Blue Mountain Road.
