South of Palisade, Nevada, we at last see the other side of those tunnels through an outcropping of Palisade Canyon. In this view looking south (track direction west) the Southern Pacific main is on the right and the Western Pacific on the left, with the Humboldt River in the foreground. The WP bridge in the distance again crosses the Humboldt, which then flows between the two lines for a considerable distance. Note that the block signal, which in WP days would have been a searchlight signal with the relay box and mast painted green, now follows UP practice, with silver paint and a black shield protecting the three-color "traffic light" signal lenses.
