At Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, the Western Maryland crosses the Youghiogheny River on a long deck girder bridge. Although by this time the WM was pretty much under the thumb of the Baltimore & Ohio, it was still running regular freights; only in 1975 would the B&O begin its massive abandonments of WM trackage.
