Looking north along the Union Pacific at Caliente, Nevada, we see the entrance to the Clover Creek Wash, a somewhat less forbidding version of the Meadow Valley Wash to the south. The signals mark the junction with the Pioche branch, which at one time led to a highly productive mining district. U.S. Route 93 is at left.
