It's apparent from the signals turned away from the tracks that the Pennsylvania's Chautauqua Branch from Oil City, Pennsylvania to Brockville, New York is either out of service or at least severely downgraded. This slide was taken from what was then the New York Route 17 highway crossing (now New York 430) east of Mayville, New York looking north; NY 17 was later re-routed across the center of Chautauqua Lake.
