Another look at the Northern Pacific's Butte Short Line over Homestake Pass, once route of the North Coast Limited, here seen from Interstate 90. Although "out of service" for many years, this line had not been formally abandoned and tracks remained in place, in some cases hanging in midair where the grade had eroded away.
