Near Vermilion, Ohio the former Nickel Plate Road mainline cuts straight as an arrow through fertile farmland just south of Lake Erie. The signals mark the start of a passing siding; although mostly single track the high-speed Nickel Plate made the most of its well-maintained physical plant.
