Looking east from the South Halsted Street bridge we see the narrowing throat of the Indiana Harbor Belt's Blue Island Yard. Ahead is State Line Crossing just west of Hammond, Indiana, where the IHB will cross the Chicago, South Shore & South Bend, Elgin, Joliet & Eastern, Wabash, Nickel Plate Road, Chicago & Western Indiana and Baltimore & Ohio, all in one go. Note the tri-light signals, typical of the New York Central (majority owner of the IHB).
