Ashley, Illinois is host to a crossing of the Illinois Central's Centralia, Illinois to Madison, Wisconsin line (here seen looking north) with the Louisville & Nashville's Nashville, Tennessee to St. Louis, Missouri line. By this time the IC had merged with the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio to form Illinois Central Gulf, though in a few years most GM&O lines would be abandoned and the road's name would revert to Illinois Central again.
