At Rondout, well north of downtown Chicago, the Milwaukee Road's mainline was crossed by the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern. Just north of the crossing the abandoned grade of the Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee ran overhead, providing an ideal vantage point for photography. Here an EJ&E freight has held up what appears to be a northbound Milwaukee Road local.
The vacant lot now serving as a parking lot was the location of the Milwaukee Road's passenger station, torn down some time during the 1960's. At the time this was taken a small concrete platform in front of the Rondout tower served as the Milwaukee's commuter stop.
