Although the Denver & Rio Grande Western's Dotsero Cutoff is mostly paralleled by a decent if sometimes unpaved highway (Colorado River Road), there are a few places where there just isn't room for both, such as here, just north of Burns, where the highway rides the ridge while the railroad runs alongside the Colorado River.
