Baltimore & Ohio
Chicago, Illinois
July 28, 1971

One of the railroad landmarks of the area south of Chicago's Union Station is the pair of massive lift bridges and viaducts over the Union Station trackage and the Chicago River. The bridge on the left, complete with a Baltimore & Ohio color position light signal, leads to the B&O's Grand Central Station, which last saw a train in 1969 and was razed to the ground in 1971. On the right is the St. Charles Air Line, with a set of the Illinois Central's favored tri-light signals, which connects the IC's Iowa line with its lakefront Central Station. This view is from Canal Street.
