Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
Chicago, Illinois
July 28, 1971

The advent of Amtrak on May 1 has not yet impacted the appearance of this Santa Fe passenger train, the head-end consist still in classic warbonnet paint, heading into the 18th Street passenger servicing terminal after finishing a run. The engines are practically sparkling, not surprising as they would have just passed through the car washer. Just at left is the Illinois Central's Iowa Line, obviously suffering considerable deferred maintenance, and barely visible on the other side of the embankment are signals for the Chicago & Western Indiana's Dearborn Station throat, now inactive.
