New York Central [Penn Central]
Poughkeepsie, New York
January 24, 1973

Poughkeepsie was the end of commuter service from New York City on the road's east bank main, although electrified service ended at Croton-Harmon. Here, looking north from the rear of southbound Amtrak train no. 74, the New Haven's bridge over the Hudson River looms over the station platforms. Today this bridge, long out of service due to a fire on May 8, 1974, is a pedestrian walkway called Walkway Over the Hudson.
