It's well-known that the New York, Chicago & St. Louis (better known as the Nickel Plate Road) was basically built as a "hold-up" job, paralleling the New York Central from Buffalo to Chicago with the intent of forcing the Central to purchase it at a markup (it did). Although at times the Nickel Plate's line ran several miles apart from the Central, for a good part of the way from Cleveland to Buffalo it was within sight, providing considerable entertainment for a certain young railfan riding the former Central to and from college.
This shot was taken from one of the remaining Penn Central passenger runs between Cleveland and Buffalo; the location is unknown, but probably somewhere between Buffalo and Dunkirk.
