Waverly, New York was a major interchange point between the Erie and the Lehigh Valley, which crossed under the Erie main just east of town. In addition, the LV had trackage rights over the Erie to Elmira, and its own tracks from Sayre (just south of Waverly) which paralleled the Erie east to Oswego, where it used trackage rights to access Binghamton.
