Perhaps the most dizzying aspect of this remarkable railroad was that it was electrified, resulting in a forest of catenary which had to be continually relocated as the pit grew. Because the portable support towers positioned the catenary to the side of the tracks, the locomotives used trolley pickups located on the sides of the carbodies as well as overhead pantographs for stretches of more traditional cantenary.
