Union Pacific

Union Pacific
Salt Lake City, Utah (Grant Tower)
August 20, 1998

Known as Grant Tower interlocking, this Salt Lake City junction at S. Temple & 600 W is just west of the Union Pacific depot, and is where incoming lines from the south merge and split again. The line immediately to the left is the former Western Pacific main, by this time part of UP. The track leading directly away from the camera was at one time the former Salt Lake, Garfield & Western main which by this time led only to a power plant and was abandoned from there on west, but the Union Pacific's Los Angeles & Salt Lake line now connects here (via the second switch to the left) to provide access to the UP's north-south main through Salt Lake City.

A quick look at Google's Satellite View reveals that this area is almost unrecognizable today.
