One doesn't have to get very far south of Salt Lake City to be reminded of the surrounding desert. Near Vernon, Utah, the Union Pacific's Los Angeles & Salt Lake line crosses Utah State Route 36 in bleak but beautiful surroundings. This view faces north towards Salt Lake City.
