Further south along Nevada's Meadow Valley Wash Rainbow Canyon becomes much narrower; eventually the highway (Nevada Highway 317) becomes a dirt track primarily for railroad and ranch use only. Here a northbound freight emerges from the canyon after crossing the wash and highway on a two-span truss bridge at a location called Boyd.
