The New York Central's former Rome, Watertown & Ogdensburg line along Lake Ontario and down to Rochester, New York, also known as the "Hojack Line," gained a certain notoriety during the Penn Central years due to a photograph of a way freight working it's way through the underbrush describing it as the "jungle patrol." As this photo of the RW&O line east of Charlotte, New York shows, at least some brush cutting seems to have been done but it wasn't exactly a well-maintained line. However, the shiny rails show that it still carried traffic at this time.
