The New York Central's four-track mainline used to run right through downtown Batavia, New York. At the west side of town the Central maintained a small yard at the junction between the mainline and its secondary "Peanut Line," which ran to Tonawanda (halfway between Buffalo and Niagara Falls on the Niagara River). Although the mainline was relocated south of town in the 1950's, the Central retained this two track line through the center of town to reach the Peanut Line until its abandonment. Here we see the Erie's Rochester Branch crossing the Central at grade, and past it the Central's bridge over Tonawanda Creek (not the same bridge as the four-track one used by the rerouted mainline south of town).
