Pullman Junction, in the southern part of Chicago, still used manual gates to control the heavy traffic through the junction. Here the gates across the former Nickel Plate Road mainline are closed for a move on the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific (near tracks) or joint Chesapeake & Ohio/Belt Railway of Chicago (far tracks), as a southbound Norfolk & Western transfer run awaits its turn.
