At one time the Lehigh Valley's huge shop complex at Sayre, Pennsylvania, built in 1904, was the heart of the railroad, and was briefly the largest structure in the world under one roof. Sadly, it was eventually demolished under Conrail.
In 1970 there was very little activity visible around the shops themselves, but on this day the engine terminal hosted three Alco road-switchers in the "snowbird" paint scheme, one of the Lehigh's most attractive but definitely a chore to keep clean.
