With Conrail in control, the Erie mainline has been downgraded to local service. The westbound (right-hand) track is now rusty. Passenger service over this line ended in 1977. Ironically, the Baltimore & Ohio's Newton Falls Subdivision on the left is, if anything, as healthy as ever.
