Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal

Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal
South Chicago, Illinois (South Chicago Crossing)
June 2, 1973

At South Chicago (just on the Illinois side of the Illinois/Indiana border) a branch of the Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal left the B&O's passenger line to connect with the Illinois Central's lakefront line. Here at South Chicago Crossing it crossed the Rock Island and Belt Railway of Chicago, protected only by a stop sign and a tilt-board signal; by this time the B&OCT rails had been lifted. In the background the catenary supports of the Illinois Central's South Chicago branch can be seen.
