Spokane, Portland & Seattle [Burlington Northern Santa Fe]
Lyle, Washington
September 12, 1999

Another view from the Lyle, Washington highway rest area just off Washington State Route 14, this time showing some of the surrounding scenery. The construction of the Spokane, Portland & Seattle along the north bank of the Columbia River was a much more expensive proposition than that of the Union Pacific on the other side due to the extensive rock work required. This train is part of the westbound grain train seen in the previous slide.
