New York Central [Penn Central]
Archville, New York
January 30, 1973

This shot is from the rear of a northbound New York City-Buffalo Amtrak run (train number unknown), somewhere between Spuyten Duyvil and Croton Harmon, passing one of the many third-rail commuter trains operated at the time by Penn Central. The suggested location of Archville for this slide is due to the view of the Tappan Zee Bridge in the distance (since replaced in 2018 with a new bridge, known both as the "Tappan Zee Bridge" and the "Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge"). The Hudson River at right looks pretty well frozen over on this frigid January day.
