Grand Canyon Railway
Grand Canyon Village, Arizona
October 7, 1990

The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe's branch to Grand Canyon lay idle following the cessation of passenger service in 1968 and freight service in 1974. By 1988 the line was in danger of scrapping. In that year the branch was purchased by Max and Thelma Biegert, who resumed passenger service using several 2-8-0's from the Lake Superior & Ishpeming. Here a northbound train behind no. 18 enters the southwest corner of Grand Canyon Village on its way to the National Park Service-owned Grand Canyon depot.
