Thompson Springs (referred to by the Denver & Rio Grande Western as simply Thompson) is an oasis in the midst of the San Rafael Desert and was an essential water stop in the days of steam. Located about a dozen miles due north of the north end of Arches National Park on former U.S. Route 6, it once featured this trim wood frame station (now gone). Here a westbound freight approaches with the Book Cliffs in the distance.
