Denver & Rio Grande Western
Colorado (Animas River Canyon)
June 13, 1970

North of Rockwood, Colorado the line enters the most spectacular portion of the Anias River Canyon. This is probably the most famous of all the scenic views on the Denver & Rio Grande Western's narrow gauge Silverton Train between Durango and Silverton, Colorado. Riders could lean out of the coach windows and look practically straight down at the Animas River 300 feet below.

The D&RGW's Silverton line was featured in the 1950 20th Century Fox movie Ticket to Tomahawk, which was even used in Rio Grande advertisements.
