Another year, another westbound California Zephyr in Gore Canyon—but now a new railroad, as Denver & Rio Grande Western alias Southern Pacific has now been part of Union Pacific since September 11, 1997. In addition, Amtrak's Desert Wind was discontinued on May 12 of 1997 and is no longer combined with the Zephyr.
