The Denver & Rio Grande Western typically ran two or three midtrain power units on the heavy coal trains working upgrade from Phippsburg to Toponas Summit, with a single pusher unit on the rear as well. This southbound (ultimately eastbound) freight is just south of Toponas siding, with Colorado State Highway 131 at left.
